Objection: Democracy Isn’t Optional

Gavin Newsom is taking bold action to stop election rigging before 2026—and putting the power in voters’ hands.

California is showing the nation what it looks like when a state refuses to stand by while democracy is under attack. Governor Gavin Newsom is leading the charge, taking decisive action to protect our elections from being manipulated.

Texas Republicans are attempting to redraw districts mid-term—a move designed to give Trump and MAGA Republicans an unfair advantage in the 2026 elections. This is corruption plain and simple, and California isn’t going to let it happen on our watch.

Governor Newsom made it clear: “We didn’t receive a phone call from the President to quietly go in the back room and start drawing maps…We’re putting the maps on the ballot and giving the power to the people. This will be the first redistricting that’s ever done that, that’s the difference.”

This bold, transparent approach puts voters in control. The California legislature will propose new maps based on the 2020 Census, but they will only take effect with voter approval. The independent redistricting commission remains in place, ensuring fairness in the long term. These maps also include a trigger, so they only activate if other states pass unfair redistricting plans. This isn’t revenge—it’s a safeguard for democracy.

As Newsom said: “We cannot stand back and watch this democracy disappear district by district…California has the agency to shape the future.”

This fight is bigger than California. It’s about protecting elections across the country and sending a clear message that democracy cannot be stolen. Governor Newsom is leading with courage and transparency—and it’s up to all of us to stand with him.
